Repair of resin-veneered polyetheretherketone after veneer fracture

Statement of problem If a composite resin-veneered polyetheretherketone (PEEK) restoration chips or fractures, repair may be indicated. However, the most appropriate protocol for PEEK is unclear. Purpose The purpose this in vitro study was to determine efficacy airborne-particle abrasion and/or primer prostheses. Material and methods specimens (N=80) were abraded with alumina before being conditioned methyl methacrylate-based primer. A thin layer opaquer applied, split mold then filled veneering resin. underwent 5000 thermocycles, shear bond strength (SBS) determined used as positive control group. Specimens that failed either mixed adhesive modes contaminated saliva exposed 4 different treatment methods: no abrasion, bonded without (negative group); primer; All had applied veneered. Repaired thermocycling SBS testing. Data analyzed via ANOVA Newman-Keuls post hoc test (?=.05). Results values negative significantly lower than those all other groups group (P<.018). No significant differences found among these (P>.05). Conclusions Composite restorations prostheses repaired can provide comparable initial SBS.
